As well as being a portrait photographer, I am also a photography teacher. I introduce students as young as eight years old to the concept of photography and try to explain to them the power an image can hold. I tell them that to be a successful photographer, you do not need to be an encyclopedia of photographic and technological knowledge. Instead, I tell them the one thing you need to do, is to tell a story with your image.
I explain to them that photography is an universal language, without barriers. Many of my students come from an array of different countries and origins, and many of them are multilingual. I tell them that a good photograph will send a message without words and language, but instead through emotion. A successful image will tell a story that anyone can understand, anywhere around the world.
Here is the story of two new little lives, with personalities as beautiful and different as can be despite the womb they shared. Here is the story of love, of new parents, glowing with happiness through the exhaustion of life with newborns. Here is the story of a brand new family, with only the greatest of possibilities in front of them.
